"Why Has Bodi-Dharma left for the East?" This very highly

regarded Korean film (1993: it won several major awards and made several major critic's best 10 of all time lists!), tells the story of three men at a lamasery: a young boy recently orphaned; a man in his early twenties; and a aging wise man in ill health.
Very little "action" happens but it is in the profoundly affecting portrayal of the subtle interractions between the three, the perfectly scored soundtrack, and the cinematography that the magic of this film is woven.
What is a life spent rejecting the world like... before the certainty and clarity of "grace" or, in the Buddhist tradition, Nirvana is found?
"Travellers and Magicians" plows the same ground but in a delightful and more light-hearted manner, though this is meant as no criticism.
If religion or mysticism hold any interest for you, you cannot afford to miss either film.
I also enjoyed the more recent "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring..." but because of the last1/4 of that film, or so, I cannot place it in this company.
