Don Siegel directed this police procedural, shose location filming recalls the earlier classic "Naked City". Though based on a novel called "The Commissioner" the screen play downplays the top cop's role in favor of focusing on the Richard Widmark and harry Guardino detectives' investigation (a cahneg not like by Henry Fonda, who plays the commissioner, at all). I found Don Costa's score annoying and distractive at times and also found the entire movie vey uneven.
