"Tumbleweeds"

In the long traditin of folks running away to the American West, this 1999 film follows a mother and daughter (Janet McTeer, Kimberly J. Brown) who leave the mother's abusive fourth husband and head from South Carolina to San Diego in a beat up old car. They have adventures along the way and their relationship is close but they do disagree and fight a lot. When they finally arrive the mother gets a boring job and takes up with a truck driver who looks like the Marlboro Man. meanwhile, the daughter enrolls in school and makes a best friend and flirts with a budding boyfriend. The mother eventually quits the job while the daughter pursues a role in an upcoming school production of "Romeo and Juliet". Lurking around is a good man, a former fellow worker of the mother. Excellent cast, story, and directing and this one holds your interest.
