Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy

OK, so I confess... last night we watched the woman's Lifetime channel.

Horrible, I know... but could have been worse.

Far worse.

As we started watching "Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy", we became glued to the tube. Sure, the story about a very young woman facing breast cancer ordeal had all the flavor you would expect from a "based on a true story" made for TV film. And yet it had strong human element, coupled with a simply marvelous performance by Sarah Chalke, that made it hard to resist.

Of course it had personal element - four and a half years ago my wife and I walked a very similar road when faced with her stage IV ovarian cancer, so all those scenes in chemo therapy clinic, operating room, waiting room, etc. rang the unfortunately too familiar a bell. A life-changing journey for any person.

The film is about breast cancer, but much of its emotional melody applies to any serious disease, and hardly any family is spared those.

One could certainly find faults with the film and its directing, but Sarah's performance is so convincing that that alone would more than justify the modest Netflix expense.
