I had the same question. I'm paraphasing what I was told
It is EADs contention that the Burr Brown 1702 DAC is still the best on the market. EAD said that if you call Burr Brown they will confirm that the 20-bit 1702 is still their best DAC.It is EADs opinion that at this point in time 24 bit is mostly hype. EAD said that many products claim 24 bit resolution, but really can't resolve anywhere near 24 bits. In other words they can read it but it's not what you get at the outputs. EAD said their products are true 20-bit machines.
EAD said they will not support "true" 24-bit resolution until all standards are firmed up.
