Surround sound is for dd, dts, pro-logic modes or movies that have the proper encoding however, if you wish to hear normal 2ch music in surround sound you should be able to select it, I can. DVD will give you superb surround sound normal music cd's are not designed for use with surround sound right now but if you select surround-pro-logic on your amp, your music cd's should using the center channel and smaller effects from the main left and right plus rear surround.. however, this music surround sound will be more visible in the near future..Joel
