How about both? That's what I did ultimately, with nice results. I have two in the corners, as you did, then two alongside the listening position. The four rear speakers (2 LR, 2 RR) are wired in series (so as to avoid impedance problems, at least in my case), which makes stringing wire a little tricky, but it can be done. This setup avoids the "hole in the middle" syndrome and seems to envelop listeners nicely. (I also goose the rear channels a couple of decibles.) All speakers are 5-6 feet from the floor. This arrangement is with conventional speakers aimed into the room; your arrangement may differ somewhat if you have dipole speakers. I would trot down to the library and check out (literally) the April 1996 issue of Stereo Review; it has what is actually a thorough article on experimenting with rear speaker placement in Dolby Digital setups.
