Hey Chumps, In my opinion the Marantz SR-680 is right in that price range and is an excellent reciever. I did try this reciever out and thought it was very high quality. I actually got a friend of mine to buy the model right below this one the SR-580(he wasn't looking to spend that same amouunt of money)
The SR-680 provides 60 Watt/Ch, Lucasfilm Cinema Re-Eq technology, and 5.1 channel Pre-amp outputs for exturnal amps it you want them later. I found the build quality and sound quality to be excellent. I highly recommend that you give this a try if you can.
