They come and go depending on the darkness of the scene (lowering the brightness and increasing the "picture" control helped). My 27" Magnavox does not have these bars but it does not have a s-video connection only composite. I assumed these bars were from the s-video cable. I'm going to to try a test tonight if it happens with composite video on my 32"
