Quote from Outlaw's site:"Through the use of Zoran's ZR38650 multi-format digital audio processor IC, the new Outlaw receiver delivers precise decoding from all popular digital and analog surround formats, including Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Surround and other analog based matrix surround systems. Outlaw's designers worked with Zoran to develop three additional new analog surround modes as well as the proprietary algorithm for Outlaw's Surround 6.1 process. "
Since the ZR38650 was developed to only support existing formats, DD, DTS, DPL etc. I am guessing that the 3 'proprietary algorithms'(likely to support 6.1) they talk about are loaded onto the ZR38650, since it is a programmable chip.
The extra channel in 6.1 by the way is matrixed, meaning that the rear Left/Right channels are processed to extract a third center rear channel. Much like how Dobly Pro Logic gets 4 channels out of 2.
If you check out the Zoran site they list most of the A/V Receiver manufacturers as clients, including Lexicon, Linn. With a client list like that, I have no doubt of the excellent quality that the 1050 will likely provide, as long as they do everything else right.
