I haven't listened to the Marantz but do have an older Denon AVR 2700 and I am very please with it. I did audition a Yamaha, NAD and some Rotel amps but not Marantz. I liked the Denon best and feel it is a very good product however it depends on what you like and what the rest of your system is. As for the brighness one poster commented on, in my set up there isn't any brightness which leads me to beleive there may be another component responsible for the brighness or the overall system synergy is one that produces brightness.
