Hi,I wonder if anyone can help me.
Firstly, I recently purchased and set up an Onkyo TS-DX777 (no hum problems as I have seen reported elsewhere) and am having trouble on two fronts.
The first problem is getting audio from my Pioneer DVL909 Combi player. I have DVD assigned to Optical 2 and connected with S-Video, no problem here - Dolby Digital comes through perfectly. However, I have about sixty Laser Discs and some have Dolby Digital (AC3) encoding. So, accordingly, I also connected a Co-ax from the AC3/RF out to both the CO-Ax 1 and 2 of the Onkyo and when I play an AC3 encoded Laser Disc I get nothing whatsoever - switching to Optical with the LD playing I get PCM ofcourse. It has occured to me that perhaps the Pioneer has no FM Demodulator and therefore I would need to purchase one. There is no mention of one in the Users Manual and if there isn't one internally I would be rather annoyed as this unit cost me 1800 Australian Dollars and I would expect to have it included unless of course it is not normal for the FM Demod. to be built into a LD player.
Is anyone familiar with this model and do the Demod. usually come as a separate black box inside the box with LD Players. If so, I obviously missed out,,, can anyone suggest where you buy these things and how much do they cost?
Second problem is that I recently connected to FOXTEL by Satellite which for those who don't live in Australia is the local Subscription service offered by FOX.
I was supplied accordingly with the latest (DSD700) Satellite Decoder which features an S-Video OUT - marked S-VHS strangely enough - and everything works fine through composite leads but no such luck with S-Video. I have tried this into the Amp through Video 3/S-Video 3, direct to the TV S-Video in and no luck. The picture is black and white and sometimes rolls. Does this point to a problem with the Set Top Box or is it common to experience problems such as these with S-Video from an Amp? The reason I say the latter is because the Amp states that if there are picture problems experienced from a Sat Decoder video-wise to connect to Video 3 which I've done.
It is not an option to connect another way as my aim is to have a unified Home Theatre/Audio System and the TV (Sony) only has one S-Video input which would obviously come from the Onkyo's S-Video OUT. I don't want to double up and connect Sat via Composite (although the picture is still good) because then the on-screen display wont work for Satellite incase I want to change audio settings (Pro-Logic. Stereo, etc.). The onscreen display does seem a little jittery at times though, besides this everything works perfectly feeding S-Video to the TV via the amp from DVD/LD.
Has anyone experienced similar problems? If this is just a 'bad luck' mis-match between my Amp and Sat Decoder is there anyway of fixing it such as adding a black box (filter, etc) or something to the S-Video between Sat and the Onkyo.
I am new to this so please excuse my ignorance - would appreciate any suggestions that anyone can offer.
Thanks in advance.
