I haven't personally heard the Rotel, Marantz, or the Parasound, but I'm sure they're all pretty good. I have the Sherwood Newcastle AVP-9080R which lists for $1200, but can be had for $800. It doesn't have loads of features, but sound quality is comparable to most of the $3000 pre/pros I've heard. Good luck!
