Pierre can you please clarify

I'm not a videophile but since I buy a new TV only about once every 10 years I would like to get one that I will be satisfied with in the long term.

Can you please describe what I would be looking for to see the "noise" you refer to? I've heard the term before but am not too sure what exactly it refers to.

As I said in my original post I found the Tantus in a store setting to easily match, or exceed, the Sony Wegas for picture clarity but if someone with your obvious knowledge of such things warns of possible problems with the Tantus, I would be inclined to buy the Sony for their proven track record. To some extent the dilemma is that the comparable picture quality in the Sony seems to be only in the XBR model (probably something to do with the progressive scan or whatever it's called) but I haven't seen an XBR smaller than 32" which costs about $1000(canadian$) more than the 27" Tantus. Your further advice would be appreciated.
