Loewe or...?

132.233.247.5

This weekend I went looking for a hd/capable monitor in the $2-4K range. progressive scan and good 4:3 were pre-requisites. 2 TVs for $2500 were 36" Loewe and 36" Sony XBR -- both for $2.5K. Sony was capable of anamorphic and 1080i while the Loewe seemed to have better picture quality (at the store), but does not have 1080i. Any pros and cons between these two systems?

Also, most of the hdtv I saw at the store looked terrible on standard broadcast with the resolution degrading when the camera panned and improving when the camera was still (it was showing a college football game). What is the cause for this? Poor line doubling? OR, is this how all hdtvs look w/ std broadcasts?

Thanks,
Byas
