Very weird and frustrating DVD problem-

24.6.245.147

Hi gang,

I found this site, trying in vain to find a solution to my problem. It goes like this:

I bought an external dvd console player. A Toshiba SD-2109. It is connected, via SVideo, to an ALL-In-Wonder-PRO AGP video card. The computer is running an Operating System called "BeOS Pro 5.0.3"

Here's the problem: When I play any dvd that is "widescreen" I get annoying green and purple horizontal bands throughout the entire film. If I play a pan and scan dvd, the problem doesn't appear.

I have been in contact with several other people with this problem, and we are unable to find a solution. They are running Windows 98, and sometimes see this banding problem on pan and scan dvds, and sometimes on widescreen. The only thing we have in common is we use external dvd players. We were thinking it might be a MacroVision issue, but it's not the normal one that everyone encounters with the light and dark oscillation. Also, we don't have our machines running through VCRs.

Just to throw a kink in the works, I bought Mortal Combat as my 1st DVD. It comes with both pan and scan and widescreen versions on it. Both play fine for me....

On the back of the MC box, is a small triangle (white) with the letters "CP" and the words "Copy Protected" underneath. I can only assume that means it's MacroVision protected, which if true, would tend to discount the MacroVision problem...

...anyone that can lend a hand will be remembered in my prayers at night.

I've included a link to some of the image problems, so you can see for yourself...
