Star Trek vs The Next Generation

analog film, man, it doesn't get any better...

one of the hurdles faced by HDTV is exactly the point you make:

the origional 60s Star Trek episodes were filmed, while the Next Generation is all on pro video tape. They both look fine on our standard tv sets, but on HDTV, Star Trek looks like film, and The Next Generation looks like crap.

same thing we cope with on our hi-resolution hi-fi systems: bad recordings may sound fine over the radio or in the car, but become practically unlistenable on the dedicated he-man rig.

nothing beats going to the movies--even with the rude, insensitve patrons who talk and kick your seatback--it's still as good as it gets.
