Recomendations for a Newbie

24.183.215.188

Hello:

Forgive me if I'm being too basic, but I'm a little out of my element here, being more of a hifi type. I'm looking for some info and recomendations for an audio setup to be driven by the digital out from my DVD player.

I have 5 (6 actually) channels of full fidelity audio amplification, plus stereo subwoofer amps. Decent speakers to match all of this.

I believe I need a processor. I can accept either preamp or line level inputs if it makes a difference. Any recomendations for a processor? Preferably one I could find used? What would be some general specs I'd need to look for?

What are the recomended audio sound level ratios for front/rear/center channels?

Thanks for any help.
