Okay, here it goes.About 6 months ago my Marantz SR-96 began intermittantly going to "blue screen" while watching a DVD, tape, or Digital TV (all composite sources). It usually only does it while the unit was cool (on for less than an hour) but it could also do it randomly at any time. The problem got worse and do to its intermittant nature it was particularly frustrating. So I took it to a very very very reputable repair shop. He had it for two weeks saying he finally isolated it to the video switching IC, which he then replaced. I brought the unit home and it worked flawlessly for a day. Then the problem resurfaced. He wanted the unit back. He worked on it for another 2 weeks and said he checked all the solder joints and resoldered several of them that looked questionable. I brought it home and now it is worse than it was before. I've also noticed that the OSD is intermittant and sometimes slightly garbled. Has anyone experienced anything similar? My repair guy just wants to refund my money. I would just like to have a working unit. Any suggestions? I've been thinking of purchasing a pre-pro and continuing to use the THX-certified amp portion of the receiver, but that's still at least $1000 I don't want to spend.
