Just compared EAD Powermaster + EAD Ovation + Sony 7700
with KRELL KAV-500 + Krell A/V preamp + CAL 25
Both setups were connected to Tannoy Churchill speakers.
While EAD combo sounded more delicate and laid back , KRELL setup was more dynamic . It's kind of difficult to separate impact of amplifier from one of preamp .Overall I would probably prefer EAD combo, but IMHO their performance were compatible and person with a little different preferences easy could make different choice.
My point is - Only you can make a choice based on the rest of your equipment and preferences. Try to find dealer who will set for you these 2 amps for A/B test.
Actually I would recommend to listen to 2 more 5-ch. amps in this price range - KRELL KAV-500 and Sonic Frontiers new ss 5ch. amp.
