Fewer things in the path of a signal is always better, but to what degree you'll have to see for yourself. How, though, are you going to watch your VCR and/or satelite dish if you have the TV video input taken up by the DVD? You'd have to use the A/V preamp for switching or get a TV with multiple video inputs.
