Help!!!
I'm looking for a new amp. What I need is good stereo primarily
that also does HT.
I want to spend no more than CAN$8,000 but I can be reasonably flexible. I own a Pioneer Laserdisk/DVD combo player so an AC3 RF demodulator is an issue too.
The units I've listened to so far are:
Integra DTR-9.1, Marantz SR-14EX (I believe that was the model - it was their top-of-the unit), Musical Fidelity, Primare and Denon AVR-5800.
I listened to CD's only in order to audition stereo performance.
I dismissed the Marantz - it was an aural mess. The Denon gave me a head ache. The Integra was pretty good. The Musical Fidelity and Primare sounded pretty damn good bit no demodulator.
I used live recordings and was listening to mainly voice. I listened for ambience, silence between instruments, attack, decay, warmth, imaging, ability to play tunes in the bass and if it made me WANT to listen to the music.
What do others think?
Do you guys have any suggestions too?
Is a seperate demodulator available?
Thanks,
Terry
