I think BM makes a good point on Denon. My real question is what are you missing?Where do you want to go?
If you think you might want to go separate downline, then you might find yourself upgrading again. It'd be tough to get there on your budget, but if you did it in steps or look at some used gear you can get there.
You could add a very good 2 channel power amp now and have money left over if it's power you lack. A Belles 150A or McCormack DNA .05 is in that range or much less used.
To go the processor route now is hard. Sherwood or Sony come to mind in the $800-1,200 range, but that leaves no money for amplification. But you might find a processor plus amp used that you can afford. The plus is that you can sell it later for what you paid if you want to upgrade further downline.
