Not sure I completely understand your questions and am not sure they can be answered. It is dangerous to make general assertions about the quality of processors & subs as components used internally can vary widely in quality. Not all active crossovers and filters are of uniform quality. It might well be the internal circuitry of processor A for the sub signal is better than in sub A but the reverse could hold for processor B & sub B.

Similarly it well might be that a sub amp, specially designed for the sub could handle low signals better than the main amp.

IMO processor quality varies widely and is responsible for a lot of the negative opinion many hold about digital & surround sound.
