Check out projectorcentral.com for some recommendations. Also avsforum.com which is down right now for some help. Mostly audiophiles here which is why it's my favorite site. You have to decide what format screen you are going to be using, 4:3 or HDTV 16:9. I have looked at many lcd projectors. Personally, I have decide to wait for the new 16:9 DLP projectors with 1280X720 resolution for HDTV. The new HD1 chip from Texas intruments seems to have great contrast. Sharp's model 9000 has a contrast of 1100:1 that's great. I expect models with 1000 lumens and slightly less contrast due to the increased brightness to be on the market in the begining of 2002. Rumor has it tha Infocus is working on one. The Sanyo PLV 60 which can be purchased for around 4800.00 is the leading LCD projector right now. It has gotten great reviews. It is a 1000 lumens projector with 700:1 contrast. that can display HDTV. Another factor that is causing me to wait it the fact that HDTV will be using copy protection. Only a few projectors and televisions have the proper digtal connection to recieve copy protected signals when that starts to happen. I expect hte new projectors from Infocus to have such a connection. It copy protection becomes a reality, CRT projectors will not be able to display a copy protected signal from HBO HD or Showtime. CRT is much better than LCD but the point may be moot very soon if it can't display HDTV.
