This DVD player died on me today while watching a rented DVD. The player went to the screen saver and pushing play resulted in nothing happening. After opening the door of the player, it wouldn't read any disc, DVD or CD, that I put in it. A call to Sony's 800 # revealed that the badly scratched rented DVD caused the laser pickup to misalign itself so bad that it would cost $135 in labor to fix it (since it's less than 1 year old, it is still under warranty for parts). I was curious if anyone else has had this problem, either with Sony or any othe player?
