for the AVR-5800I have a high end audio system so the Denon is used only in a home theather setup. I have had the system for about a month. The only thing I would change would be the remote. I don't really like the touch screen. My speaker system is Definitive Technology Speaker (BP3000TL Mains, BPVX/P Surronds, C/L/R/ 3000 center).
Some quick facts:
DTS and DTS Extended Surround Discrete 6.1
Dolby Digital
Dolby Pro Logic
Lucasfilm Home THX Cinema 4.0 and 5.1 post-processing
THX Surround EX decoding
SHARC 32 bit floating point DSP processors
7 Channels equal power amplifier at 170 watts per channel (8 ohms, 20 Hz-20 kHz, <.05%THD)
THX Ultra Certified
3 sets component video inputs, compatible with wideband (480p,720p,1080i)
8 sets composite and "S" video inputs
1 AC-3 RF digital input for laser disc
TWO sets of 7.1 external wide bandwidth (100 kHz) inputs for Future multi-channel formats
9 assignable digital inputs
13 analog inputsAt $3800 this is not everyone's receiver, but it does rock. It has more than enough power for most rooms. More digital inputs than most people will ever need. My main system is all Krell electronics with Genesis Speakers. So I am very spoiled and not impressed easily.
I love this receiver. When watching a movie in THX or DTS the sound is spectacular. Audio quality is a subjective opinion. So I will not rate this receiver compared to others. But I am used to high end sound and to me this receiver matches my Krell system. This is high praise considering the Krell cost several times as much. I am very happy with the Denon and consider the money well spent.
I also listened to several seperate systems that were more expensive. I wanted a reciever rather than to put seperates together.
If you can afford this receiver and are considing a Audio Video reciever, you should listen to the Denon. I believe it to be an excellent choice. It would be a great receiver in a Music \ Home Theather system also.
Product Weakness: Absoluely None except maybe the remote Product Strengths: Power, Number of Digital input, Every Surrond Mode
