l(A), I have mine setup in a 20x20 room. But I have the projector itself set about 17ft. from the screen. Works fine. I have had it as close as 13 feet but since have constructed a bigger screen so I moved it back. Guess it all depends on the projector and how big you want your screen size to be. At 17ft, using a 10' x 5' screen, a 2.35 aspect ratio flick will take up about 9' x 4.5'. I believe that there are newer projectors specifically geared for the HT market that you can place even closer....wider dispersion. SOunds like the salesman was tossing you the old red herring.
