No doubt the Sony DVP-9000ES. Awesome machine that plays DVD, SACD, and CD equally well. Can be had through OneCall or Oade for about 1100 bucks.I have had many DVD players... Sony, JVC, Phillips, And Panasonic... and this unit is by far the best that i have seen and own (in this price-range!)
I have also heard very good things about toshiba, but not about the CD play-back
