Hi,
This is my first time here. I have got rid of AV receiver and surround speakers recently. I am very happy with my current system for stereo (see my system).
However, if possible at reasonable cost, I would like to enhance the sound from DVDs which I watch once or twice a week. I did some research here and there, and found two candidates which may enable me to do so. MD-10 and MDP3X. MD-10 is a virtual surround processor which takes in digital input from DVD and output analog to be connected to pre amp. MDP3X on the other hand, downmix DD/DTS and other multi channel signal to "ordinary" 2 ch digital signal so that "ordinary" DAC can convert to analog output.
My selfish dilemma is; my CDP has digital "input" so that the CDP CAN be used as a standalone DAC. Also, the CDP has optional analog volume control and I now connect it directly to power amp. When seeing DVD, I have to reconnect the IC through pre. If I get MPD3X, I probably won't have to reconnect any longer. DVD's digital out will be downmixed by MDP3X and fed into CDP's digital "IN", so that I can listen to CD and watch DVD with CDP's remote volume control. If I get MD10, I will have to reconnect (or always use pre) as I do now, but can get more "surround" sound with ambience, etc.
So, which would you choose? If there are anyone who has experience with either of these, I would very much appreciate your input. I searched the archive, but all I found was questions and no answers...
