Re: DVD unlocking region question

Hi Graeme

I had a similar problem, but in the opposite direction. I have a Pioneer region 1 DVD player (and an NTSC TV, but using component video). By accident I rented a region 2 disc, and put it in. I expected to to get an error saying that this region is not supported (as my friend got). However, it played, but there was garbage on screen. I took one of my multi-system TV's and got a perfect picture.

I also have a problem similar to yours with my cabe box. It has 2 settings (PAL and RGB). When it's connected to my NTSC TV (via composite -- not component -- video and set to RGB, I get a black and white picture.

I always thought that composite video was independent of NTSC/PAL (as I have a US video that works fine with a PAL TV when connected with the yellow composite video cable.

I'd dearly like to get the cable box working in color with by widescreen TV, so if you figure it out, drop me a line.

Regards

Mark
