Whilst agreeing with Sam M here is something else to consider

If your gear supports it I recommend going with a coaxial digital connection as opposed to optical.
Sound quality will improve as less signal conversion will occur plus
coax has better connectors. If your gear does not support coax and you have no intention of changing in the near future I have found the Van Den Hul Optocoupler to be the best of the opticals out there.
