firewire and optical cable for connection?

TVs, VCRs, DVD players, Home Theater systems and more.

I have heard some talk, from a local hi-fi shop, about the industy going to firewire and/or optical cables in the very near future for hookup to video projectors and the like. I think the idea is that this is a superior method to s-video or component-video for connection. Any truth to this, and if so where could I find an article about this information?
