Question re: HDTV via cable company and sound formats

There was a thread that started a couple of weeks ago regarding 5.1 sound via the cable company's standard-issue HDTV set-top box. I have one coming in on Monday and am wondering if the shows that AREN'T in 5.1 will at least be in Dolby Pro Logic. I guess in other words, what is the default if the show is not in 5.1? I can't imagine it would be two-channel. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
(Just FYI, cable company is Time Warner and the location, San Diego.)
