dlp front projection versus hdtv

I'm thinking of upgrading from a Toshiba tw56x81 high definition rear projection tv to a Runco vx-1c single chip dlp projector with an 80" 4:3 screen.
The Toshiba has spoiled me on the virtues of the big screen movie watching experience. The Runco would allow me to use the exact same living space to even bigger effect. My ceiling is 10' high, so a ceiling mount will be a piece of cake according to my installer, a local dealer I have done a lot of business with in the past. They're also willing to buy back my hdtv at half of what I paid for it - a terrific deal - and apply that to the total cost including installation.
My ratio of dvds to tv is about 50-50 and, as a result, I would buy a 4:3 screen instead of a 16:9 screen. I've already seen a couple of demos and have been greatly impressed.
My search of the archives reveals a little, but not a lot, on the merits of the Runco unit and dlp projectors in particular. I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with this particular unit and can comment on its strengths and weaknesses, especially in comparison to a high-def tv. Taking the plunge to a projector seems a bit daunting after all these years with tv. thanks, bill
