HDTV question from NYC

I live in NYC and currently get HDTV through DirecTV (I'm lucky enough to have the right southern view). I'm thinking of adding an over the air antenna. My questions are will I be able to get any signal (I'm on the 23rd floor on the upper east side), and is it worth it? I've heard that after 9/11 there's much less available (obviously not the worst thing in the world in context). I'm not sure it was easy to get before that anyway.
