Projector Aspect Ratios: Question

Hello.

I have just purchased a Philips Proscreen 4000 projector. I plan on using it for home theater purposes such as DVD.
This model is a few years old and I believe only has a 4:3 aspect ratio. I understand aspect ratios and how they work; I'm just wanting to hear people's thoughts on aspect ratios and projectors.
With a TV, I understand that it might be a little frustrating watching with 2 black bars on the screen making the actual picture appear smaller. But with a projector you can always increase the projection size to make the image larger.
I am just wanting to hear about others that have projectors now and if they have any gripes or complaints concerning aspect ratio.

I managed to save quite a bit of money getting this model. Would I have been better off spending a lot more for 16:9??
