I'm very new to HT, and my set-up so far has been quite rudimentary - very cheap DVD player, small TV. But I just bought my first non-portable TV (32") and want to put together a home theater. So far, my stereo system, which is pretty high-end, is separate.
Here's the issue - I received, as a gift, a Sherwood RVD-6090R receiver, which has Dolby Digital decoding. (No DTS). I am looking at the Sony DVP-NS500V, which has SACD as well as its own onboard DD & DTS decoding, if I'm reading the promotional literature correctly. (Then again, Sherwood swears it has DTS, which it doesn't.)
How does this work in terms of set-up? Can I bypass the receiver's processing?
Thanks
Jeff
