Am I going to have to call Sony? Please help

Well,
my firend and I have just lugged a new Wega KV-32FV300 into the master bedroom to replace a JVC I art. This unit has the 16:9 automatic squeeze feature. I ran the avia disc and was so happy to see that the geometry is near perfect! But all is not well. I set the dvd player(Sony 715p) to output a 16:9 signal, and the tv is set to automatic detection. Well, the tv flickers between sqqueezing and stretching the image. It stretches the image like when you would send a 16:9 signal to a 4:3 tv by accident. Squeeze, then stretch, squueze then stretch, as if it cant lock onto the detection. The only way to make it stop flickering is to set the tv's 16:9 squeeze to on, as apposed to automatic. What the f*ck is going on here?I don;t want to lug this thing back b/c everything else is great and I fear getting one with bad geometry or other problems. The dvd's i tried tonight were terminator 2, titanic, and the patriot. All of them gave the same problem. Am i doing something wrong? Other than that, for the 800 bucks that i paid for this 32 inch set, it's incredible, but i woould still like to have my automatic squeeze work. Thanks for you responses.
