In looking for a new TV, I am torn between a 16:9 and 4:3 HDTV - capable TV. I don't watch very many DVD's or TV series broadcast in HDTV. Mostly sports and the occassional HBO or Showtime movie. Some of the 4:3 HDTV-capable tv's I see offer a "16:9 mode". I am not sure what this is. Can you enlighten me? Does it take a 16:9 picture and fill the 4:3 screen with it. With what distortion effect.
Conversely, what can be done on a 16:9 tv with a 4:3 broadcast picture?
Thanks for answering these basic questions.
Neal
