Panasonic XP30 fails PLUGE black level test

24.60.184.148

I just received a Panasonic XP30, which was highly rated in the DVD
shootout in Secrets of Home Theater. Unfortunately, this player seems
to fail even the most basic test of passing signals below video black.

On the pluge test, the blacker than black line is not shown even if brighntess
and contrast are raised to maximum.

The player is set to the darker setting (both settings were tried), and I'm
using component video to a Panasonic plasma. I have on hand two
other players (a Sony 7000 and a Panny RP-62), both of which pass this
PLUGE test, so the problem is not in my setup.

Anyone else have a XP30 that they can try this on? Perhaps I received
a defective unit?

Thanks,

- Sridhar
