Next TV?

Mates,

My old (c.1990) Sony 27" television machine appears to be on it's way out, having never been quite the same after it fell in the 1994 Northridge earthquake.

I'm debating whether to repair this one (est. $150 for tuner board) or get another set and would appreciate suggestions for brands and models 27" or 32" with good quality and features. I have a Pioneer 434 DVD and Sony VHS but my current set has only three source inputs- antenna, cable and VCR. I use my old Marantz 2235 receiver for sound occasionally, but have to switch cables between VCR and DVD. May I assume that new sets have multiple inputs?

As my Sony is my only second TV and I bought it more than 10 years ago, I'm out of touch in the TV world. Budget is up to $500- any brands generally or models that are esp. good for the price? Amazingly, the old 27" Sony cost about $750 but I see ads for 27" sets today under $400.

Any insights are appreciated- Thanks!

Bambi B
