27 inch HDTV

My bedroom 27 inch Sony XBR is biting the dust and needs to be replaced. I am limited by cabinet size to a 27 inch television, preferably without speakers alongside the tube (as they increase cabinet width and because I will run the audio out to my old Atlantic Pattern speaker set). Even though the current Sony VVEGA has a lot of nice features and otherwise would be a no-brainer for me, HDTV seems to be the smart purchase right now. For reasons of expense, picture quality, and image size, however, I don't want to replace the Sony with an LCD display.

Unfortunately, there are very few 27 inch HDTV CRT monitors. I see models from Advent, Panasonic, Samsung, and Zenith are available, but I never considered any of these topnotch manufacturers (and, in fact, did not know the Advent brand now is used for televisions). Apparently, however, the 27 inch form factor is as good as dead for cutting edge directview tv's, so these tv's both are well below the radar screen when it comes to magazine reviews and may end up being the only available options for me if the Sony's, Mitsubishi's, and JVC's of the world are utterly without interest in this screen size for HDTV.

Anyone using any of the 27 inch HDTVs out there now? I expect to use digital cable as the HD input, but could be persuaded to switch to VOOM or Dish Network if that is a better way to go. All information gratefully sought and accepted. Thanks.
