HD cure for TiVo addiction?

208.160.33.212

My wife and I are ADDICTED to TiVo and are about to move and upgrade our television experience to HDTV. We are tempted to go with Time-Warner's package (TV, phone, internet) BUT want to keep TiVo versatility.... i.e.: season pass, high speed through commercials, etc. when we get to HDTV.

What would you suggest?

And also, I have been visiting stores and am amazed by the bad std def picture on almost any set I've seen. The salesfolks blame the picture on the distribution amps they use. Faces look waxen. I'm not sure I could stand that - does it look better in the home or do you have to live with it as tax for the HD?

Should we wait for the next generation of sets? Will they follow the new year? Is the REALTA HQV chip that big an improvement (the mags RAVED and RAVED)? Are major improvements very close or a year or so away? I realize any point in time points to a better future, but, realistically, are we close to a new PQ breakthrough?

Thanks,

Bob
