Leave TV on/off?

Hope someone can offer some advice...
I have a Toshiba 32" widescreen HDTV. When the cable box is turned off the screen goes dark, but the Toshiba's red power button is still on. The TV, as far as I can tell, is in a standby mode.
I'm concerned that leaving it in this standby mode will shorten the TV's life.
It's more convenient for me not to turn it off, but perhaps this is not best the TV?
