Wiring 2 Amps for HT

Hey,
Might seem a strange question, but where else to ask such questions?

I want to run my TV's sound through my pre and enjoy myself while watching TV. For movies, the DVD player already is attached to the pre, so no issues.

I currently have a pre with two sets of output jacks. Could I hook up two amps to the jacks and when watching TV, just have one of the amps turned on? The speaker connections would be pass through banannas or something so that both amps would always be hooked up to the speakers at all times, but both would not be turned on at the same time.

I am thinking of such a crazy scheme because my main amp is Class A and runs like a space heater (Levinson ML-9) and I have access to a nice A/B amp (Arcam 9P) that I can use for TV purposes.

If this is just stupid, what would work and not compromise my main listening sound?

Thanks.
E
