Please help diagnose VCR problem.

Hi all,
I fell asleep watching my VCR, all fine and good, but when I awoke, the picture was all fuzz, and the sound was still perfect. The picture was not faint, but gone completely, 100% fuzz. The sound was not at all fuzzy. What would this be? I am mostly curious, as I am sure it is not worth the repair, and it is time for DVD or Combo player.
