Replacement for a Rotel RSX1055 receiver - suggestions?

I have a simple HT system and have been using my Rotel receiver for audio - optical cables from my Denon 3910 DVD player and HDTV cable box so I can make use of my speakers when watching/listening to TV and movies. I don't use the receiver for video switching, just as a bridge to my 5.1 speakers set up.

I am not displeased with my Rotel receiver, but wondered if there was a better receiver available that has a good tuner (my partner likes to listen to the radio) and excellent audio capabilities. Used is more than fine; I would rather only spend about $1000.
