Analog throughput.

207.172.52.149

I have a Sony S9000ES CD/DVD/SACD which has no DD/DTS internal processing. I also have a Rotel 985 pre/pro with contains 5.1 inputs. The 5.1 inputs keep the signal analog and have no digital/DD/DTS processing.

I found that my SACDs (and to a lesser extent my CDs) have cleaner, more defined and synamic sound if I use the analog inputs and avoid the digital processing.

Two days ago, I decided to listen to a couple DVDs through this analog only input (no digital/DD processing). The DVD works. The mid-bass and midrange sound better than DD, but the signal is not as extended. It lacks the deep bass and extended highs. I also only get stereo. Still, the signal is quite listenable.

This has no great significance, but I did find it interesting that a DVD can put out a decent audio signal without DD processing.
