progressive or not?

Dear inmates,

I'm currently searching for a new DVD player for around $500.
Problem I'm having now is, should I go for a progressive scan capable model? Since my TV doesn't support this feature and I don't have plans for upgrading my TV in the near future.
Also, I've read something like this (many of you might already know where this came from :)),

"In practice, this player tends to do better on more material than other Genesis-based players, ..... In addition, when the player is in video mode, it's using the video-mode deinterlacing of the Genesis, which is just lousy. In the case of More Tales, you can switch the transfer mode to video, and the artifacts will go away. However, you may find the image too soft to watch."

And that's the reason for my hesitation. So, if there's a machine that performs good on both progressive and non-progressive TV, I guess that would just solve the problem.
One other thing, does anyone know if the Panasonic DVD-RP61 is available yet? And how well does it perform?
Any comment or suggestion is appreciated!

Simon
